Interview: going to know... Desicloe

1. What’s the name of your business, what do create and sell?

Il mio nome è Manuela De Simone e sono un'illustratrice. Il nome del mio negozio deriva proprio dal mio nome d'arte: DesiCloe. Desi perchè sono le prime lettere del mio cognome; Cloe è il mio alter ego, il personaggio femminile che compare in tutte le mie illustrazioni. Nel mio negozio vendo appunto questo: tante piccole parti di me trasformate in illustrazioni e oggetti vari come specchietti, segnalibri ecc ecc....

My name is Manuela De Simone and I'm an illustrator. The name of my shop comes from my professional name: DesiCloe. Desi becouse of the first letters of my surename; Cloe becouse is my alter ego, she is the female character who appear in my illustrations. And this is what I'm selling in my shop: a lot of little part of me wich are become illustrations, pocket mirrors, bookmarks and go on...

2. What are your inspirations in your art and life?

Le mie illustrazioni nascono dai miei stati d'animo e sono la rappresentazione della mia vita e dei miei sentimenti. Quindi traggo ispirazione da tutto ciò che mi accade e che mi circonda.

My illustrations arise from my moods and they are the representation of my life and my feelings. So my inspiration comes from all wich is around me.

3. Do you listen to music while you create? If so, what?

La musica è fondamentale nel processo di creazione. Scelgo sempre qualche melodia che si accordi bene con le emozioni che voglio l'illustrazione trasmetta una volta completata. Può capitare che ascolti ripetutamente una canzone mentre disegno...anche 10 volte di seguito! I miei gusti spaziano molto: nel panorama musicale italiano le cantanti che più mi ispirano sono senz'altro Elisa e Cristina Donà. In quello straniero, invece, alcuni che mi piacciono molto sono Emiliana Torrini, PJ Harvey, Mum, Mono, Oi Vai Voi, Sia, Coldplay, Imogen Heap, Lali Puna, Radiohead, TelepopMusik, Yael Naim.

The music is essential in the creation process. I always choose any melodiy wich is in according with the feelings that I want the illustration will be get once finished. While I'm drawing it could happen that I listen a song again and again...even 10 times in succession! I like very differents kind of music: In the italian contest I surely love Elisa and Cristina Donà. In the international scene I prefear Emiliana Torrini, PJ Harvey, Mum, Mono, Oi Vai Voi, Sia, Coldplay, Imogen Heap, Lali Puna, Radiohead, TelepopMusik, Yael Naim.

4. What is your studio or work space like?

A casa io e mio marito (anche lui grafico e illustratore) abbiamo una camera adibita a studio. Abbiamo entrambi le nostre scrivanie e i nostri computer. E' bello condividere con lui la nostra area creativa piena di amore!

In our home me and my husband (he's a graphic designer and illutrator too) have a room used as studio. We have our desks and computers. It's beautiful to share with him our creative area full of love!

5. What 3 things can’t you live without?

Mio marito, la mia arte e la mia libertà.

My husband, my art and my freedom.

6. What is the best creative advice you have been given?

L'umiltà è la miglior dote che una persona possa avere. Bisogna lavorare sodo per ottenere quelo che si vuole!

The humility is the best quality that someone could have. You have to work hard for obtain what you want!

7. What’s new? Any products or projects you’d like to share?

Per il nuovo anno ho molti progetti che intendo realizzare. A cominciare dal mio sito www.desicloe.com

Inoltre nell' ultimo mese ho inserito molti nuovi prodotti all'interno del mio negozio: specchietti, segnalibri, collane, stampe su tela e su pannelli e ho intenzione di implementare ulteriormente la gamma di prodotti a disposizione.

In the past month I uploaded some new stuff in my Etsy shop: pocket mirrors, bookmarks, jewerlies, prints on canvas and panels and my intent is to expande the product range in the next months.
